Instead of making a gingerbread house this year, bake your gingerbread people into a cupcake! The recipe for these delicious and totally adorable gingerbread house cupcakes is in my cookbook, Bake It in a Cake: 50 Treats With a Surprise Inside!
It’s out now on Andrews McMeel Publishing and available at your favorite local bookstore as well as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and Indiebound.org! (And it makes a great gift, if I do say so myself.)
Seattle! Come see me this weekend! I’ll be signing copies of my cookbook, Bake It in a Cupcake: 50 Treats With a Surprise Inside, at this year’s Urban Craft Uprising. Come say hi from 2-3 pm on Saturday Dec 1st and 1-2 pm on Sunday Dec 2nd.
There are some really amazing vendors at UCU, too, selling everything from lovely necklaces to gorgeous tea towels. I’m sure you’ll be able to find the perfect gift for just about everyone on your list. You can see the full list of participants here. Hope to see you there!
Is the weather outside frightful? Cozy up with some hot chocolate and a batch of mini snowball cupcakes with a delicious Raffaello candy inside! Here’s the recipe.
Of course I would be so flattered if you included my new cookbook, Bake It in a Cupcake: 50 Treats With a Surprise Inside on your shopping list, but why stop at picking up just one book, when there are so many great new releases to choose from? Here are a few more favorites that will surely please you or the other food-loving friends.
1. Tiny Food Party! by Jenny Park and Teri Lyn Fisher

Look at how cute it is! Petite pop tarts! Teensy tacos! Everything in this book, written by Teri Lyn Fisher and Jenny Park, the women who run spoonforkbacon.com, is itsy bitsy teeny tiny. From savory hors d’oeuvres like miniature deviled eggs (made of quail eggs) to one-bite desserts like white chocolate cheesecakes, Tiny Food Party! will please the sweet tooth, the salt fiend, the meat-lover, and the vegetarian. (And since all the creations are so small, it’d definitely be fun to experiment and try baking some of the recipes into cupcakes, right?)
2. Smitten Kitchen by Deb Perelman

One of my favorite food blogs, Smitten Kitchen, has finally released a cookbook! And it is stunning. Deb Perelman (both the book’s writer and photographer) has put together a mouth-watering list of recipes that look impressive while being absolutely doable, even for novice bakers—peach and sour cream pancakes, corn risotto-stuffed pablanos, tomato scallion shortcakes with whipped goat cheese… I’m hungry. Bonus (for me at least, since I don’t eat meat): Well over half of the recipes are vegetarian friendly.
3. Sweet Tooth by Lily Vanilli

Lily Vanilli takes baking and sweets-making to an inspiring new level, making her seafoam green and hot pink cookbook a must for anyone on your list who loves to experiment with flavors and textures. Her desserts involve bright candy colors, edible flowers, and a variety of innovative decorating techniques. If you can’t afford to buy your cake-loving friend a ticket to London to visit Vanilli’s bakery, this is the next best thing.
It’s never too early to start making holiday baking plans, so I recommend you add these Candy Cane Kiss brownie bites to your to-bake list ASAP.
Look! Look! Bake It in a Cupcake is HelloGiggles’ item of the day. AND! You can enter to win a copy of the cookbook! Head over to HelloGiggles.com to find out how. A winner will be chosen next Thursday (November 29). Good luck!
Six words: Cheesecake-Filled Pumpkin Cupcakes with Nutella Buttercream.
In honor of the crazy rainstorm happening in Seattle right now (over an inch and a half of rain… and counting!), here’s the recipe for my Rainy Day Cupcakes.
Thanksgiving is this Thursday! Do you know what you’re making for dessert? I highly suggest these pumpkin pie stuffed cupcakes.
If you’re looking for something different, my new cookbook has recipes for caramelized yam cupcakes (with toasted marshmallows!), cheesecake-stuffed pumpkin cupcakes, and more! You can buy Bake it in a Cupcake: 50 Treats With a Surprise Inside, at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound.com, or your favorite local bookstore. (Psst… it makes a great gift, too!)
Happy baking!
Last night Maine, Maryland, and Washington (where I live, WOO!) all voted to legalize gay marriage. My heart is so happy today. Rainbow-filled cupcakes for everyone!
